Humans don’t seem to realize the effects we have on each other. Whether it’s a long-term relationship, a family member or a stranger, those moments can have big and lasting impact. It’s those moments that get under our skin, stick to our brain and the backs of our eyelids. Some of those moments we will never escape, never be free of as our minds can and do flash back, unbidden, to things from the past whether or not they’re relavant to the situation at hand. A happy dinner can be marred by the memory of a certain dark apartment… someone not saying hello can trigger a taught belief of being worthless. Most people outside of your brain will never know what’s transpired in there but I think a lot of people walk around really wishing they could scream so loud it would shatter the glass of the mirror that keeps showing them these scenes.
This image is part of a series in which I wanted to illustrate some of the emotions that have no words to express how deeply they run and to show how we’re all connected even in the things that alienate us from one another.
